John Wesley High, JR
was born in Rocky Mount in 1949. He attended ECU and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Art Education with a focus on Printmaking under the master printer Donald Sexaur. Specializing in plein aire painting and florals, he was influenced by Claude Monet, Francis Speight, Winslow Homer, James McNeil Whistler, Charles Philip Brooks, and photographer Robert Eagles. Mr. High taught all public school grades and Foundation Correctional Facility in Rocky Mount, and in surrounding counties, teaching basic art principals. His works can be seen in the frequent private showings, at teacher exhibits, NC Wesleyan College, the Imperial Center, and select locations in Virginia and Georgia. Mr. High hopes to one day show his works in South Carolina.
