graduated with a degree in Fine Arts from Virginia Commonwealth University, with a focus in painting and printmaking. After moving back to North Carolina she received her Art Education degree from Wesleyan and started teaching art in NC public schools. She worked with students K-12 in eastern NC for the next 31 years and enjoyed this work. When she moved to Rocky Mount she became immersed in the arts, newly retired with time to pursue new ideas. She became a member of the ceramic studio at the Imperial center and a studio artist at the Bel Air Artisan’s Center. Jan teaches private lessons, group painting and life drawing classes. She was given the privilege to have a solo show at the Maria B Howard Arts Center with sculptures, assemblages and paintings. She also was in solo and group exhibitions at the Mims Gallery at Wesleyan College. She was accepted in National Juried Art shows and placed with honors. Winning first prize for an assemblage in the North Carolina Fine Artist Exhibition for the 3-D division was a highlight..
